About this book

A history book that never has to be published

Chronicle 2036 is a history book from the future. It looks back from 2036 on the choices being made today, exactly ten years earlier. Twice a day it is rewritten from the news, and every edition carries that day's date.

The book follows the bleakest course that the news still makes credible. Not the bleakest imaginable, but the bleakest plausible. It is not a prediction but a warning. Every different choice made today deletes a page from it.

How to read it

  • Highlighted text really happened. Every highlighted fact is confirmed by at least two independent sources. The red number points to those sources in the margin.
  • Plain text is the scenario: how a historian in 2036 would write down what follows if nothing changes.
  • The timeline in each section shows in four steps how one choice made now plays out until 2036.
  • “How it could still change” names, for each section, the choice that can still prevent that course.

Five pillars

The book follows five subjects that together decide what the world will look like ten years from now:

  1. War & peace
  2. Law & freedom
  3. Economy
  4. Hunger, disease & poverty
  5. Climate & nature

Subjects do not disappear from the book because the news briefly turns elsewhere. A section only goes once a different choice makes its bleak course no longer credible. Then it becomes a struck-out page.

Sources

  • Facts only enter the book with at least two independent sources: international news agencies, independent public broadcasters and primary sources such as UN agencies and official documents.
  • State media and propaganda channels are never used, not even as a supplement.
  • Wikipedia, social media, opinion pieces and think tanks do not count as sources.
  • When in doubt, a fact stays out.

Real people

Real people appear only in highlighted facts: what they actually did or said, with a source. The scenario names only countries and institutions. No invented future actions, statements or fates are ever attributed to real people.

Who is behind it

Not Yet Printed is an independent, non-commercial project. No party, organisation or funder is behind it. It has no advertising and does not track who reads it. The makers remain anonymous, so that it is about the book and not about them.

The texts are written and translated with the help of AI, following fixed source rules.

The hosting is currently paid for by the makers.

For schools

The book is free to use in the classroom. Students can, for example:

  • check the sources in the margin;
  • separate facts from scenario;
  • work out which choice would delete a page.
